“Mafia” is a group and deduction game that simulates a battle between an informed minority and an uninformed majority. This game requires a minimum of 5 players, and each player is assigned a specific role.
In “Mafia,” effective communication, maintaining composure, and presenting logical arguments play crucial roles in achieving victory. Players receive their roles secretly; the mafia members know each other, while the citizens are only aware of the total number of mafia members and some of the roles. During the night phase, the mafia secretly chooses a citizen to eliminate, while the doctor attempts to save the intended target. The detective works to uncover the identity of the mafia and, if successful, must convince the other citizens of their discovery. The main characters in the game are the Mafia, Doctor, Citizen, and Detective, though additional roles such as the Sniper can be introduced in different variations.
During the daytime phase, all surviving players engage in discussions to unveil the identities of the mafia members and collectively vote to eliminate a suspected individual.
The game continues until either all mafia members are eliminated (resulting in a victory for the citizens) or until the number of mafia and citizens is equal, leading to a victory for the mafia.
Mafia Guide
Welcome to the game of Mafia at GTC Cafe!
In this game, there are two teams: the Citizens and the Mafia. Players will experience an intense cycle of night and day. During the ominous nights, everyone goes to sleep, while Ruby will call players one by one to awaken and fulfill their secret jobs based on their roles.
Ruby will give you your role before the game begins, when everyone else goes to sleep. Keep it a secret—your life could depend on it. Remember, revealing your role at any point in the game results in a loss for your team.
The Good Guys:
• Detective: The Detective possesses the unique power to unmask another player’s role. Point at a player, and Ruby will give you a thumbs up if they are a member of the Mafia, or a thumbs down if they are a
Citizen. Use this critical information wisely during the day to guide the Citizens, but beware— the Mafia islurking. Remember that if you point at the Godfather, it is always a thumbs down!
• Doctor: You can save another player from the Mafia’s deadly grasp during the night by indicating them when Ruby awakens you. However, be cautious, you can only save yourself once.
• Angel: Should you meet an untimely end, you have the mysterious ability to return to life. Other players can also bring you back if they discover you during the night and point in your direction.
• Sniper: Armed with a single bullet, you can take a headshot at a bad guy. Yet, if you mistakenly target a good guy, you will waste your shot—and potentially your own life.
• Hacker: On the first night, you will choose certain players, and the next day Ruby will provide you with crucial clues about their hidden roles. The knowledge gained could tip the balance of power.
• Die Hard: The Mafia’s first bullet will not claim you—your survival is paramount in the suspenseful whispers of the night.
• Mayor: Your authority allows you to cancel the votes for the player who is sentenced to elimination at the end of each grueling day.
• Citizen: Though you possess no special actions during the night, your instincts must be finely attuned during the day. Pay close attention to clues and fellow players, for the Mafia will stop at nothing to eliminate
you.
The Bad Guys:
• Godfather: The most formidable member of the Mafia, responsible for orchestrating the killing of a targeted Citizen every night. Their power casts a dark shadow over the game.
• Mafia: Collaborates with the Godfather to decide who will meet their fate each night. Trust no one.
• Psychologist: Wields the ability to silence another player for a day. Whether you target a fellow Mafia member or yourself, the implications are dire.
• Killer: An independent force, neither aligned with the Citizens nor the Mafia. Your mission is to eradicate all Mafia members. You are armed with three bullets, but choose wisely—targeting a good guy will lead to your own demise, not theirs.
